Our Mission.

“It takes a Village to Raise a Child” - This old African proverb became true to heart during the early 1900’s when the African American citizens in the small rural town of Fredonia, Alabama joined forces with Booker T. Washington and Julius Rosenwald to construct the New Hope School which became the cornerstone for educating so many Black children in this community. This came at a time when these children were being deprived of a quality education due to inadequate facilities and teaching material.

The mission of the New Hope Foundation, Inc. is to restore the New Hope Rosenwald School located in the community of Fredonia, Alabama and to assure that the history and legacy of this property is preserved for future generations.

Four Goals of the New Hope Foundation

Renovate and restore the New Hope Rosenwald School to its original appearance according to the original blueprints as put forth by Booker T. Washington and the Tuskegee Normal Institute.

Educate and promote awareness within the community about the Rosenwald School initiative.

Establish the New Hope Rosenwald School as an Alabama tourist attraction.

Community Outreach - After restoration, utilize the school as a community center and museum.
