Saving the Past to Shape the Future

Most of the historic Rosenwald schools have fallen into disrepair due to neglect or a lack of recognition for their historic significance.  The New Hope Foundation is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the New Hope School to assure that its precious legacy is recognized and passed along to future generations.

It takes a village to raise a child

This old African proverb became true to heart during the early 1900’s when the African American citizens in the small rural town of Fredonia, Alabama joined forces with Booker T. Washington and Julius Rosenwald to construct the New Hope School which became the cornerstone for educating so many Black children in this community. This came at a time when these children were being deprived of a quality education due to inadequate facilities and teaching material.
